Hello Marc,
2 regions of Tajikistan have merged in 1992:
* Kulyabskaya Oblast' (id 1221188 )
* Kurgan-Tyubinskaya Oblast' (id 1221159)
They now form the Viloyati Khatlon (id 1347488 ).
So the 2 former regions should be deleted, and all their dependencies moved under the Viloyati Khatlon.
Additionally, Dushanbe, the capital city, is independent (adm1). So a new adm1 should be created for it.
Regards,
Ludovic

Hello Marc,
thank you for your answer.
I'd be glad to help find polygon information to improve the quality of the database. However, I first need to understand the kind of licence you need.
Concerning the UN dataset mentioned above, they state that:
Copyright of the SALB dataset (codes and digital maps) is vested in the UN. The owner of the data agrees on the use, reproduction, distribution, display, publication and dissemination at no cost to third parties of the SALB dataset, in any manner and in any form whatsoever, subject to the copyright and acknowledgement mentioned in the metadata. It is prohibited to change the contents of the database without consent of the owner.
This doesn't seem very restrictive to me, but I'm sure I'm not aware of all constraints you have. So could you tell me what I should be looking for?
By the way, it may be usefull to publish a list of all polygon information you have, along with their recency, in order users could help find missing information...
Regards,
Ludovic

Hello,
I've come accross the following website: http://www.unsalb.org.
SALB is for Second Administrative Level Boundaries, and the website is part of a United Nations project.
They provide free polygon information for numerous countries, among which some may be more recent than on Geonames.
As I don't see this source in your list, I thought it could help...

Hello,
a new territorial organization took place in Rwanda in 2006.
5 provinces were formed out of the 12 former prefectures. These provinces are already present on Geonames but I've no idea of what to do with the prefectures, which are still displayed as adm1.
Any advice?

Ludovic

The actual Pointe-Noire city (id: 2255414) should be upgraded to adm1.

Hello,
in addition to my previous post, I've found free polygon information about Burkina Faso.
They are available at http://www.unsalb.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=77&Itemid=102&country=BFA&period=2009-04-28&levels=2
Note: a free registration is needed.
By the way, lots of other countries' boundaries are also available on this UN-owned site.

Hi,
Gouvernorat de Tunis (id:2464464) and Tunis al Janubiyah Wilayat (id: 2464463) are 2 names for the same region.
I suggest to keep the Gouvernorat de Tunis (which seems to be empty) and move all adm2 of Tunis al Janubiyah Wilayat under it.
Shall I do it ?

Ludovic
