Hello,

Hau Giang (7506719) is an adm1 in Vietnam.
Its hierarchy, as indicated by the webservice, is not complete (directly under "Earth"): http://ws.geonames.org/hierarchy?geonameId=7506719
The sws service doesn't recognize the id (http://sws.geonames.org/7506719/about.rdf).

Hello Marc,

there is a problem with a new adm1 in Denmark: Vestsjællands Amt (7498391).
It is not an adm1, and although it appears in searches, the record is not in the database.

Hello Marc,

Before 1992, there were 7 department, including Niamey.
In 1992, Niamey department split in Niamey capital district (2595294) and Tillabéri department (2595293). Then in 2002, departments were renamed "regions".

(source: http://www.statoids.com/yne.html)

So there are no adm2 attached to Niamey "Region".
In addition, the previous "arrondissements" in the Niamey department now belong to Tillabéri.
* Filingué
* Kollo
* Ouallam
* Say
* Téra
* Tillabéri

All adm2 should be renamed as "departments", and there are 4 missing:
* Arlit arrondissement in Agadez department (since 1969)
* Maradi arrondissement (now dpt) was replaced by Aguié, Guidan-Roumdji, and Madarounfa arrondissements (now dpt) in Maradi department (now region) in 1972.

Hello Marc,

the adm divisions of Vietnam, as described here: http://www.geonames.org/VN/administrative-division-vietnam.html are correct.

In order to reflect this, would it be possible to make the changes mentioned above? It should be rather quick & easy.

Thanks in advance!
Hello,

there are now 5 governorates in Bahrein, as described here: http://www.geonames.org/BH/administrative-division-bahrain.html

All 5 governorates are already known on GeoNames. The previous adm1 (regions) should be flagged as obsolete (since July 3, 2002: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Governorates_of_Bahrain).

By the way, links to Southern, Central & Northern governorates on http://www.geonames.org/BH/administrative-division-bahrain.html are bad. They link to the obsolete regions.

Hi,

municipalities are considered as adm1 for Kosovo in Geonames.
However, it seems that there is a level above : districts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Districts_of_Kosovo)

Would it be possible to add this level?
Thanks!
Thanks Marc !
Great !

Thanks Marc !
Hi,

I give it another try...

Regards
Hello !

any chance this region could be created?

Thanks!
Great! Thanks a lot!

I've checked the web service so it's fine to me.
Just in case you don't know: the advanced search on the website is still bugged concerning fuzzy search on composite names.

Regards
Hi Marc,

I've come across several posts about fuzzy search. It was a great surprise to discover that this feature was available through the search webservice, since there is no mention of it in the documentation.

However, I'm having an issue with multi-word names. Although you said composite names were now indexed (http://forum.geonames.org/gforum/posts/list/573.page), they don't seem to be recognized. Ex: Levallois Perret in France.

So what is the status on this feature?
Hi,

this entry is displayed in the admin list (http://www.geonames.org/BT/administrative-division-bhutan.html). However, it still can't be found in the database...

Would it be possible to add it?

Thanks!
Ludovic
Hi Marc,

2 traditional counties have been divided for administrative purposes:

* Tipperary, which split into North Tipperary and South Tipperary (1898 )
* Dublin, which split into Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown (capital Dún Laoghaire), Fingal (Swords), and South Dublin (Tallaght) administrative counties (1994)

These regions are already present on Geonames (as "Administrative Divisions").

Would it be possible to delete Tipperary and Dublin, and to promote these 6 admin division to adm1?

Regards,
Ludovic
... Should I delete the entry?

Marc, do you think there is a chance my (numerous) remarks will be taken into account, some day?

Regards
Hi,

I didn't say that this district is a new adm1. Would it be possible to create a new entry ?

Regards,
Ludovic
I came back today on these divisions and noticed that alternate names for the regions I modified were obsolete since they applied to the previous regions. That's why I deleted the alternates for Zabaïkalski.

But the problem is that Zabaïkalski is indicated under Russia>Tsijta (obsolete region) instead of Russia>Zabaïkalski. Unfortunately, I can't change this.

Same problem for Kamchatka Krai.

Actually, I made these changes on the 23/01...
Hello Marc,

I'm having a problem with previous changes.
I only changed names (ex: Chitinskaya Oblast'replaced by "Zabaïkalski Krai"), but the admin divisions remain.

Ex : now the "Zabaïkalski Krai" is marked as Russia>Tsjita (the former division) instead of being directly marked under Russia>Zabaïkalski Krai.

How can I proceed?

Regards
Ludovic
