Hi Marc,

here are some tricky updates for Russia:

* a new region (ADM1) has been created in 2008 : the "Zabaykalsky Krai", as a result of a merger of Chitinskaya Oblast' and Aginskiy Buryatskiy Avtonomnyy Okrug.
=> Chitinskaya Oblast'(ADM1, id: 2025333) should be replaced by "Zabaykalsky Krai"
=> Aginskiy Buryatskiy Avtonomnyy Okrug (ADM1, id: 2028094) is now Aginskiy Buryatskiy Okrug (ADM2), under the newly formed Zabaykalsky Krai

* Same thing for the Kamchatka Krai (ADM1), which has been created from the merge of Kamchatskaya Oblast' and Koryakskiy Avtonomnyy Okrug
=> Kamchatskaya Oblast' (ADM1, id: 2125072) should be replaced by "Kamchatka Krai"
=> Koryakskiy Avtonomnyy Okrug (ADM1, id: 2124279) is now Koryakskiy Okrug (ADM2), under the newly formed Kamchatka Krai

* Status of autonomous Okrug have changed in the '90:
- Taymyrskiy (Dolgano-Nenetskiy) Avtonomnyy Okrug (ADM1, id: 1489879) is now "Taymyrsky Dolgano-Nenetsky District" (ADM2) in Krasnodarskiy Kray (ADM1, id: 542415)
- Evenkiyskiy Avtonomnyy Okrug (ADM1, id: 1506922) is now Evenkiysky District (ADM2) in Krasnoyarsk Krai (ADM1, id: 542415 as well)
- Ust'-Ordynskiy Buryatskiy Avtonomnyy Okrug (ADM1, id: 2013895) is now Ust-Orda Buryat Okrug (ADM2) in Irkutskaya Oblast' (ADM1, id: 2023468 )

Best,
Ludovic
Hi Marc,

the "Aftónomos Periochí Agíou Órous" -id 736572- is an autonomous area in Greece, and should be considered as a 1st level admin division. Maybe the prefered language should be in English, as for the other 1st level divisions : Autonomous Monastic State of the Holy Mountain.

By the way, following page : http://www.geonames.org/GR/administrative-division-greece.html displays level 2 admin divisions instead of level 1.

PS : I'm currently working on admin divisions; I could help correct some mistakes if I had sufficient rights...

Ludovic
Hello,

the Eskisehir 1st order administrative division (as displayed in http://www.geonames.org/TR/administrative-division-turkey.html , ISO-3166-2 ESK) seems to have disappeared, replaced by "TR.26".

Hello,

the Provincia de Lima (id 3936451) is not part of the Lima Region anymore (since 2002). It is now a first level admin. division (next to the 25 other regions/departamentos).
Hi,

I'm using your great database and I've come accross several errors with administrative divisions. I cannot change anything by myself since I don't have sufficient rights (and it involves adding new regions, which I'm not sure I could do anyway)... So far, I encountered problems with following countries:

* Slovenia: you have no less than 198 1st order admin. divisions but I can't find any of the 12 correct regions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slovenia#Administrative_divisions)

* Greece: Mount Athos is a 1st order admin. division (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Athos)

* Ecuador: 2 provincias (i.e. 1st order admin. divisions) were created in 2007: Santa Elena and Sto. Domingo de los Tsachilas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecuador#Administrative_divisions)

* Serbia: Serbia normally has 31 districts (17 in Central Serbia, 7 in Vojvodina and 7 in Kosovo), while the city of Belgrade presents a district of its own (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subdivisions_of_Serbia). In GeoNames, districts should either be 1st order admin. divisions or 2nd order if 1st order correspond to Central Serbia, Kosovo and Voïvodine. There are now 101 2nd order admin. divisions just for Central Serbia.

* Russia: 3 autonom Okrug have been absorbed by Oblasts (1st order admin divisions), thus aren't 1st level anymore.
- Ust'-Ordynskiy Buryatskiy Avtonomnyy Okrug
- Evenkiyskiy Avtonomnyy Okrug
- Taymyrskiy (Dolgano-Nenetskiy) Avtonomnyy Okrug
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonomous_okrugs_of_Russia)

In addition, the Zabaykalsky Krai (1st level) has been created in 2008 from a merge of Chita Oblast and Agin-Buryat Autonomous Okrug (which shouldn't be 1st level anymore).
Full map: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russia#Subdivisions

* Portugal: Districts are schedule to disappear (though still widely used). The Portuguese territory was reorganized in accordance with a system of statistical regions and subregions known as Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics that are the basis of the statistical system of information for the entire European Union (which may live together with districts as 1st order admin. level untill districts disappear). (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Administrative_divisions_of_Portugal).

That's all for today
I hope it can help!
