Hi

I guess you are referring to the 'contains' rdf file. This file contains the administrative hierarchy (children). As far as I have read about the Netherlands Antilles the Islands are not really considered administrative divisions.
The Netherlands Antilles will cease to exist on 15. Dec 2008 and some of the Ilands will then be similar to Dutch Municipalities (adm2)

Fips 16 was changed to 28 in 2001 (fips06) and fips 25 to 32 in 2002 (fips07).
I have changed both right now and update the toponyms in these provinces.

I have also updated the timezone with your table, though I have used 'Asia/Pontianak' for the provinces on West and Central Borneo (11 and 13) where you are using 'Asia/Jakarta'.

As for the names we should probably rename them to the English name 'Province' and use the two local name variants 'provinsi' and 'propinsi' as alternate names.

Vielen Dank.
Ein Oberwart habe ich gelöscht und die Bezirke nachgeführt.

Kannst du die fehlenden noch anschauen. Da sind einige bereits vorhanden. Einen ADMD für Wien habe ich als den Bezirk Wien (Stadt) verwendet.
Auch beide Eisenstadt sind als ADMD vorhanden :

Wenn wir dann die Bezirke voll haben können wir uns um die Gemeinden kümmern. Die Name in den Statistik Austria Liste werde ich dann als alternate name einfügen.

Diese Fehlermeldung kommt, wenn man auf speichern klickt ohne was geändert zu haben. 'Lower Austria' und 'Bundesland Niederösterreich' ist ja daselbe. Das eine ist der Englische, das andere der Deutsche Name.

Die Hauptaufgabe ist das Zuordnen der bereits existierenden ADMs zu den officiellen Codes.

Viele ADMD in GeoNames sind wahrscheinlich ADM2 oder ADM3 und man muss den FeatureCode korrigieren und die Zurordnung zum korrekten admincode machen. Du kannt mir dazu ein File schicken, da diese Bootstrapping Aufgabe direkt auf der DB gemacht werden muss, es gibt dazu noch kein UI.

Danach müssen die fehlenden in die Datenbank eingefügt werden. Für die Koordinaten können wir einen avg value aus den PLZ dump verwenden. Das geschieht aber automatisch. Du kannst mir ein csv file mit den Daten schicken und ich füge die Daten dann in die DB.

Das ist sicher geplant. Es hat halt einfach noch niemand Zeit gehabt, bzw. es hat sich auf der Prioritätenliste noch nicht hochgearbeitet.
Vielleicht möchtest Du etwas beitragen?

Wir verwenden seit Jahre postgres mit postgis und sind zufrieden damit. Es ist aber sicher gut, dass mysql diese Funktionen auch langsam anbietet.

I think the file in the dump directory is more recent and the csv files has some more columns. It is high time that they are synronized again. The bounding box is indeed read from the database, but some hardcoded values had to be added for some entries. It is therefore not wrong to completely keep it in the file.

The children service only returns ADM1, but there is a ADM1 called 'Moskau' in our database :

Here the answer :

As an answer to your question sent on www.posta-romana.ro, we inform that we can not provide a file of the postal codes of Romania. You can buy from Romanian Post Offices the CD with postal codes or can sign a contract with Romanian Post for Postal Codes data base (the price 1000 USD without taxes).

I fear as long as we don't find another provider we will not be able to include Romanian Postal codes in our database. You can buy it and include it in your copy of the GeoNames database. The GeoNames cc-by licence allows this.

I didn't have a specific generic code in mind. I was just thinking loud. The tagging system is not yet very sophisticated and kind of mixture between private and public. Taggs are searchable but only ones own tags are displayed in the info window.

I am afraid there is no csv file with country bounding box information and the two files you mention have ran out of sync. Would you like to help us fix this and add the missing info from the xml file to the file in the dump directory, we could then update the csv file with this new version.

It is not a dropped feature since it was never officially supported in the API. It should only be supported on the website to move to the correct place when adding new locations.

Das Ziel ist die PLZ in den normalen GeoNames dump zu integrieren. In einigen Ländern haben wir begonnen die PLZ als alternate names zu Orten zu erfassen, mit dem Pseudo-ISO Sprachcode 'post'. Frankreich ist schon ziemlich vollständig, und von besserer Qualität als die Daten im PLZ dump. Die Daten lassen sich so auch einfach manuell bearbeiten, ohne dass das UI angepasst werden muss.
Du hast Recht die Gemeinden der Schweiz sind noch nicht in GeoNames eingepflegt. Das hat einerseits damit zu tun, dass das Bundesamt für Statistik auf seiner Webseite seit Jahren eine Excel Liste mit den sogenannten Kirchturmspitzkoordinaten aller Gemeinden anbietet, nur darf man die Daten nicht für GeoNames verwenden. Ich habe schon einige Male nachgefragt und jedesmal wurde mir klar gesagt, dass dies nicht erlaubt ist. Anfang Jahr ist ja das neue GeoInformationsGesetz in Kaft getreten. Man könnte wieder einmal nachfragen, ob die Daten jetzt wirklich frei sind. Bei Swisstopo gibt es seit einigen Monaten eine ähnliche Liste, dort könnte man auch nachfragen, ob die Daten frei sind.

Wenn du möchtest kannst du nachfragen bei swisstopo oder/und bfs welche Daten man verwenden darf.

L.AMUS is now included in the drop down UI list.

You are right there are some inconsistencies with the feature codes. This is a downside of any categorization system that an entity can only be part of one category. Another issue you have not yet mentioned is that some feature codes are pretty obscure and hardly ever used. Deprecating a couple of them would probably make sense.
