Thanks. The capital name for the language 'nl' is wrong. I will fix it.
The children service is internationalized. See the Spanish version of the service, as an example :
http://ws.geonames.org/children?geonameId=2750405&lang=es
It depends on the alternate names we have available for each language. You can help us improve this with the wiki edit interface. Example (click on the link 'alternate names') :
http://www.geonames.org/2749990/provincie-noord-brabant.html
The names for admin divisions are cached in a property file. Changes will not be visible in the web services immediately.

Hi David
There is feature code 'Athletic field' : a tract of land used for playing team sports, and athletic track and field events.
This page has a short definition for all feature codes :
http://www.geonames.org/export/codes.html#S.ATH
I don't know much about cricket. Does the feature code description someow cover the idea of a 'cricket ground' ?

Hi KiwiGeek
Great. Would be a fantastic contribution. Does your data set base on the newest postal codes?
You can send a file (csv, excel, ...) to my email address or you can attach it to the posting on the forum.
Thanks a lot.

The problem is that this location resolves to the ocean. To determine the timezone we first check which country the lat/lng is in to find the correct timezone for the country.
In this case we don't find a country and cannot proceed with determining the timezone.

Hi Julian
The ONS codes are also available in the Ordnance Survey Administriative Geography :
http://geonames.wordpress.com/2007/04/11/ordnance-survey-administrative-divisons/
We have assigned the admin codes where ever possible. Here an example with the admin code '17UJ' :
http://www.geonames.org/2641373/north-east-derbyshire.html
Unfortunately many districts are still missing in GeoNames or have not yet been assigned with their codes. Here the list of the districts we have in our database :
http://www.geonames.org/search.html?q=adm2&country=GB
Even when we add the districts, the information to which district a place belongs to will still be missig for most locations.

Marc

Hallo Jens
Da hast Du völlig recht, da stimmt was nicht. Ich habe den Code von einem Contributor erhalten und ungetetest ins cvs gestellt :
http://geonames.cvs.sourceforge.net/geonames/geonames/java/src/org/geonames/utils/Bearing.java?sortdir=down&view=log
Gruss

I would tend to museum since it has an educational function like a museum. For an unpopulated village there is also the feature code 'abandoned populated place' :

Hi Stuart
The problem is that we don't have this information. In particular European countries don't make this information freely available. They are selling for often expensive prices with restrictive licenses.
We would love to provide the information, but as long as European countries don't understand that it would be better for their economies to freely release geographical data it will be difficult to get into more details.

The offset you observe is due to a rounding to 30'' in a data set we are using for many country where we could not found more accurate information.
The google maps display is certainly more accurate than the rounded data.

Thanks for letting me know. I have restarted the application server and the problem disapeared. I guess it has to do with the application server having run out of memory.

Hallo
Es gibt tatsächlich zwei Berlin in Deutschland :
http://www.geonames.org/2950158/berlin.html
Gruss

Hi Andreas
Do you think the search service should find them with UK and GB in addition to their own country codes?

Hi Samuel
We have quite a few reverse geocoding services :
http://www.geonames.org/export/reverse-geocoding.html
For lack of data for other countries the street level reverse geocoding only works for the US.
