Try what works better for you. (nearbyPlace or NearbyPostalcode)

Sure, why not. We could easily add an additional column with the GDP infor the next time we change the file. I don't want to change it too often as every change breaks user's scripts to read and load the file. In the meantime you could gather the GDP info. You can post it here so that everybody can use it.

This is a pure coincidence. There are no synonyms other than the alternate names. The Mexican city 'Viente de Noviembre' happens to be in the state Oaxaca, which has the fips code '20'.

Japan is an island and does not have any neighbours. I will fix the error and just return an empty list.

The extendedFindNearby is a wrapper around the other reverse geocoding services and tries to return the most specific result. The level of detail and the available services varies between countries the result therefore varies too. You could get the UK like result with the findNearby service to get the geonameId and the hierarchy service to get the toponym hierarchy for this place.

GeoNames is not touching the original text and there is no penalty for overuse, the only result would be an exception with an error message.

Die Ortsnamen sind zur Zeit nur bei der Suche und den verwandten Services übersetzbar. Bei den übrigen Services werden bislang nur die Name der Länder, Kontinente und der Administrativen Einheiten übersetzt.

All entries of the feed are in Dublin. The service returns the coordinates of Dublin, I don't see what else it could possibly do.

The cia is using the fips codes and not the iso codes. There is still no iso code for Kosovo. This is the problem with codes and standards, there are so many to chose from.
