If you are not interested in the street name then it is probably better to use the findNearbyPostalCode service. The latter is using polygons and also returns an answer where no streets are available (parks etc).

It would be very confusing to return the main name for the language. The startsWith service therefore returns the name that corresponds to the 'startsWith' string.

Thanks Oscar. There was a bug in how alternate names are processed by the indexer, when they included '-' in the name.

A lot of the files in the download directory are redundant and not strictly necessary. They are there for your convenience and because other users have asked for it.

Yes, only exceptions are not counted. An empty response as in this case means there are no streets nearby and the request is putting more or less the same load on the server.

The daily dump failed because the server was running out of disk space.
I did some cleanup and restarted the dumping procedure.

There are nearly 40 counties with the code 037 in the US.

The findNearestAddress service is only available for the US.
The findNearbyPostalCodes is available for around 50 countries. The level of attributes filled may vary from country to country.

It is not a global code, it is a national code unique within the admin1.

The problem with osm is that it is not open (despite the name) and we are not allowed to use data derived from osm.

Hi Cloe
I have increased the userlevel for all users on the list except two for whom I still don't find an account:
tamamiyem
aruffell
There are three other accounts that are potentially from you, I will send the list via private message.
Marc
PS: I have removed the emails from the previous postings to reduce the spam they will get.

Your understanding is correct. In reality, however, the constraints are not enforced as we do not have the resource to guarantee it at any time. The choice is between some violations and not loosing and data or loosing data and enforce the constraint. We have opted for the first, as it is easy for a user to delete all offending records and enforce the constraints. The violating records may still be important for other users and the information helps in ultimately fixing the problems.

Hi
This is not supported by a single call. You would need two calls, first to get lat/lng for the place name and then to get the nearby postal codes. The direct one call service is only supported for postal codes instead of place names.

The JSON version of the services are meant for javascript.
A json example is here (for another service, however):

Do you have all tram stations in Switzerland?
Fred has recently suggested to add tram stations:
