i've entered some bus stations in the city of basel, e.g. Bernoullianum
However, when i search for Bernoullianum via xml API,
it will not find a result. See
http://www.geonames.org/search.html?q=bernoullianum
vs.
http://www.geonames.org/search.html?q=bernoullianum
A search for all Bus Stations in Basel results in 3 stations while there are
at least 10 in the html view (http://ws.geonames.org/search?country=CH&adminCode1=BS&featureCode=BUSTN&style=full).
Can someone please explain me why there exists such a discrepancy between html and xml api?

The www and the ws domain are two different servers. The synchronization normally is instantly but sometimes it takes longer.

I thought of something like that, ws returns the missing spots now.

thanks a lot for your great work anyway!

Am i right there is no special feature code for tramways available? do you maybe plan introducing one? if not, should i enter tram stations as bus station or railroad station?
If you find the time, it would be great having all tram stations in basel or switzerland inserted to geonames database via csv file.

Do you have all tram stations in Switzerland?

Fred has recently suggested to add tram stations:

The problem with osm is that it is not open (despite the name) and we are not allowed to use data derived from osm.

I've recently suggested to add tram stations. Still no plans to introduce distinct public transport feature classes?

It would be very helpful to have similar classes to the Google Transit Feed Specification (route type field in routes.txt):

0 - Tram, Streetcar, Light rail. Any light rail or street level system within a metropolitan area.
1 - Subway, Metro. Any underground rail system within a metropolitan area.
2 - Rail. Used for intercity or long-distance travel.
3 - Bus. Used for short- and long-distance bus routes.
4 - Ferry. Used for short- and long-distance boat service.
5 - Cable car. Used for street-level cable cars where the cable runs beneath the car.
6 - Gondola, Suspended cable car. Typically used for aerial cable cars where the car is suspended from the cable.
7 - Funicular. Any rail system designed for steep inclines.

Hi

I have added a new attribute to the edit form called 'public tags'. It allows to add arbitrary tags and share it with everybody. It is more flexible for this kind of situation where an entry may be assigned with more than just one tag and with finer granularity of differences. It would be an overkill to add new feature codes for all different kind of tram stations.
The new field is not yet exported in the dump, but this will follow in the next days.
I can also imagine, that we add some predefined set of tags and implement some consistency checks when adding a tag. This would help keeping some kind of consistency and still be more flexible than with just the featurecodes.
