I think Yekaterinburg is the common English name for the city and it is therefore correct as the main name.
If you need the Russian name you have to use the name from the alternate name table.

The only license requirement of the cc-by license is to give credit to the project. Commercial usage with ads or other activities is allowed.

The timezone webservice returns some attributes that indicate whether there is DST right now or not. If the dstoffset equals the rawoffset (current) and is different from the gmtoffset then you know the location is currently using dst.

The file admin1Codes.txt includes obsolete codes. If you only need the current codes you should use the file admin1CodesASCII.txt or the database itself.

Para las localidades tienes que bajar el fichero entero de Argentina
http://download.geonames.org/export/dump/AR.zip
y luego eliminar todo que no sea 'featureClass=P'.

the behavior of the name_startsWith search service has been changed to overcome the issues pointed out in this thread.
The service now does a sorting with a certain name similarity of the top 200 rows.
If you are particularly interested in a country we also suggest to use the countryBias parameter to list the hits for this country on top.

the alternate names have been changed today. The name displayed is the name from the alternate names marked as 'short' and/or 'preferred' in the English language (or the language requested by the service). The 'main' name is only used for display when no alternate names are available for the requested language.

Geonames does not yet support address geocoding. For the US you could other solutions like geocoder.us.

The name displayed as adm1 region is not updated immediately. It takes some days till the update takes effect as it needs a restart of the application and a new build of the admin name cache.

I suggest you download the entire dump again.
Extraordinary updates directly on the database will not lead to an update of the history and the modified date.
I don't remember exactly what happened to this record, but I think it was an issue with uniqueness of the adm1 code leading it to be set to null and later it was restored.

Thanks. I have changed it. The search service per default is also using GB dependencies like Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man when searching for GB. In this case this is not desired and the other entries are now removed from the list.
