Thanks Julian.

I have changed it and increased your userlevel.

Hi

There was an issue with synchronization and the toponyms that were added very recently had a shift in the id on the sws server.
A full sync has been done to fix it.

Hi Stefan

It is just a distance function and it cannot be edited.

Marc
are you sure?

according to wikipedia it is in Dobrich:

it is a little bit too redundant for my liking.

Ex:

Main Name: University of Alabama Birmingham

Alt Names:
University of Alabama, Birmingham
University of Alabama - Birmingham
University of Alabama at Birmingham
University of Alabama in Birmingham

Isn't the main name enough. There is hardly any new information in the alt names, just more or less a repetition of the main name.

Thanks. Will be fixed.

Hallo Othmar

Danke. Der Fehler wurde korrigiert.

Gruss

Hi Chloé

I can open the file and I have started updating the first records. Then I realized that all places with the same name are mapped to the same adm2 code in the file. There seems to be something wrong with the mapping, normally places with the same name should be located in different adm2 divisions.

you are right the raw offset is standard time. It would need a comparison between the time returned and the current utc time.
Chloé

The forum is a third party software and we have not (yet) implemented a singlesignon with the geonames usernames for editing toponyms.
It needs two different users. One for the forum and one for editing geographical records. Your user probably has the latter but is missing the former.

The search service includes a 'population' element. You would need to search with the 'name' parameter to avoid getting the insee codes together with the postal codes.

Example:
http://ws.geonames.org/search?name=49100&maxRows=10&style=full&country=fr

The insee codes are in the admincode4 field.

thanks, I have changed it.

Marc
Thanks. I have deleted it.

Hi

I have added a new attribute to the edit form called 'public tags'. It allows to add arbitrary tags and share it with everybody. It is more flexible for this kind of situation where an entry may be assigned with more than just one tag and with finer granularity of differences. It would be an overkill to add new feature codes for all different kind of towers.
The new field is not yet exported in the dump, but this will follow in the next days.
I can also imagine, that we add some predefined set of tags and implement some consistency checks when adding a tag. This would help keeping some kind of consistency and still be more flexible than with just the featurecodes.

The alternate names are used to determine the name to be displayed and it takes some hours or days for changed in the alternate names to become visible. The main name is only used when there are no alternate names.

Marc
check out the documentation of the search service and the hierarchy service.

Marc
ich verstehe die Frage nicht. Der genannte Dienst zeigt doch gar kein DE an und der json service liefert die attribute getrennt, so dass sie beliebig zusammen gesetzt werden können.

Marc
Thanks. I have changed the code for the US entries.

Marc
Thanks. It has been changed.
