Hello,

I'd like to add an English alternate name "San José" for San Jose, Calif, geonameid 5392171. Currently "San José" is present in the alternate names list, but not as an English alternate, even though it is used as such in the wild, for example in the first sentence here:

However when attempting to add it, I get the message "The record you want to edit is locked for updates for userlevel1". Could someone with better access please update it?

Hi again,

I noticed another missing English alternate name -- this time for Kingston upon Hull, geonameid 2645425. Could someone with appropriate access level add an alternate name "Hull" for English?

Marc, thanks for your help and fast responses.

I've noticed some more inconsistencies with alternate names, in particular those of Universities with multiple campuses. For example, where X is the main university name and Y is the location of the university:
University of X, Y Campus
University of X, Y Center
University of X at Y
University of X-Y
[..]

And many others. I've tried to account for these inconsistencies by generating a list of alternate names for each geonameid that has a "University of X"-style name - the list is attached. I've gone through each entry in the list manually to verify them, as well. Could these alternate names please be added?

PS. I can regenerate the list in whatever format is convenient for bulk loading.

it is a little bit too redundant for my liking.

Ex:

Main Name: University of Alabama Birmingham

Alt Names:
University of Alabama, Birmingham
University of Alabama - Birmingham
University of Alabama at Birmingham
University of Alabama in Birmingham

Isn't the main name enough. There is hardly any new information in the alt names, just more or less a repetition of the main name.
