Which timezone are you living in? We had serious performance problems last week with the free servers, those are solved now.

Hi
Cities have the featureclass 'P' (PPLC,PPLA, PPL). You should include those as well in your extract.

Hi Giorgio
There is an affiliate program for application developers leveraging the commercial web services and including it in an application. If users of this application sign up for the commercial GeoNames web services the proceeds will be shared with the application developer.

We are having some server or networking problem. The free service is still affected. We are working on fixing the problem. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Sure, you can search for them as long as they are in our database. If they are missig you can add them yourself.

Oops. I had put the modified file in the wrong directory, so that it did not get picked up by the daily dump. Sorry.

Hallo Darnell
Gruss

Hi Shann
For large areas it is better to download the country dump from the download directory:

Dump for India:

Hi Patou, I have no idea when it will be available, but certainly not anytime soon. I simply don't have time to work on it right now.

Giorgio,
In fact the extendedFindNearby service already is a combination of several services, among them the findNearby and the hierarchy service. For PPLX the corresponding city has now been included in the hierarchy service.

Posting errors here in the forum is fine. I have set the lat/lng for 98195 to the University of Washington.
Thanks a lot.

Hallo jimmysrc

Hi Yves
This is exact. Most toponyms still refer to the old counties. Do you know how they counties merge into the regions? Is there a hard and fast rule? If yes we could easily update our database.

Hi Rein
If you are using a UTF8 capable editor and have opened the file with the proper encoding and still see some wrong characters for asian countries then it might be that you haven't installed all the required fonts on your PC. On Windows you can install them with the control panel->regional settings->languages. The data is already included in the windows distribution it just needs to be manually installed, you won't need any CD.

Hi Simisa
In border regions the reverse geocoding may use simplified vector information and sometimes locate a place in a neighbouring country. As you have seen you can manually fix it, there is no better solution at this moment.

Hi Pierre
GeoTree is now correctly displaying Zandrijk and Meerhoven. I have added the PPL-PPLX relation manually to the database and Christophe has fixed a problem with the GeoTree code.
An edit interface to correct the PPL-PPlX automatically generated by the reverse geocoder does not yet exist. IIn the mean time till we have an edit interface you can post the ids for PPL and PPLX you want to be corrected as tabulator separated list here and I will add them to the database.
Thanks.
Best

Hi Tobbe
A couple of users have told us they want us to wait for the official ISO country code.
ISO has not yet come to any decision, or at least has not yet released any information: http://www.iso.org/iso/country_codes/check_what_s_new.htm
