The countries are in the allcountries.zip file (look for featureCodes PCLI and the likes). There is also a file countryInfo.txt with country specific attributes.
The country names are like all names in the file alternateNames.zip

General -> Children webservice returns wrong results -> Go to message
The children service is focusing on administrative divisions. So the children of a country are the ADM1, the children of ADM1 are the ADM2 and so on. The cities, neighourhoods etc are at the end of the hierarchy.

The problem in the examples you have found is that we don't have the ADM2 information of these cities. Theoretically we could list all PPL without ADM2 code under a ADM1, but it would be a huge list of hundreds of records.

Ja, es ist ganz einfach. Eine Beschreibung ist hier:

Die Zuordnung Stadt-Stadtteil kann nicht bearbeitet werden, wir haben dies automatisch berechnet indem wir zu jedem pplx den nächstgelegenen ppl gesucht haben. Wenn die pplx korrigiert sind müsste man diese Zuordnung wiedermal laufen lassen. Falls es in der Zuordnung dann immer noch Fehler hat müssten wir diese falsch Zuordnungen übersteuern.

You most probably want need it as the information is likely to be already included in your own environment (like the java timezone classes).
GeoNames does not offer this service and it is not planned.

Hi Ben

The free search service is running on another server and your recent updates have not yet been propagated. It is normally synchronized immediately but every now and then some manual updates interrupt the synchronization and it needs a full database copy.
We have copied the database right now and the result is now the same.
