Hello,

Muḩāfaz̧at al Wafrah (285763) is not an adm1 of Kuwait. It should be deleted.
Hello,

a new adm1 has been created recently in Hungary: Érd Megyei Város (7603250).

Erd is actually a city with county rights (like 22 other cities) but it belongs to a county and is not an independant territorial unit. So this adm1 entry should be deleted.

Sources:
* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungary#Administrative_divisions
* Hungarian Central Statistical office : http://www.nepszamlalas.hu/eng/
In the Gazetteer of the Republic of Hungary (.xls doc), there are only references to the 20 "standard" counties.
Hello,

2 governorates have been reincorporated in the governorate they detach from some years ago:
* 6th of October => Giza
* Helwann => Cairo

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Governorates_of_Egypt#cite_note-1

6th of October has been deleted yesterday, Helwann should follow (and their points moved to the right adm1).

Regards
Thanks Marc!
Hello Marc,

Just a few questions about the rdf dump: when was it last generated? How often do you generate it?

Would it be possible to generate a new one?

By the way, it may be useful to mention the generation date on the ontology page.

Thanks in advance.
Ludovic
Thanks for your reply.

Another thing: several points in Libya are shown under Sabratah adm1.
http://www.geonames.org/search.html?q=Sabratah&country=

But this adm1 doesn't exist (any more?). I spotted this particular one but maybe there are other obsolete/false divisions remaining?

From what I understand, ISO considers provinces (4) as level 1 and traditional counties (26) as level 2, none of them beeing official administrative divisions.

I'd suggest to stick to the official admin divisions and keep FIPS. In my opinion, it would be more consistent to have all 29 counties and 5 cities as adm1. Considering them as adm2 comes to mixing FIPS and ISO.

But if you want to keep the 4 provinces as adm1, you could just add 5 adm2 for the 5 cities.

Hi,

after you changed the 1st level admin system, the admin for Dublin City has disappeared. Would it be possible to add an adm2?
Hello,

the hierarchy ws doesn't return any adm1 for numerous places in Libya.
However, when looking on the website, those places have kind of temporary adm1 (LY.XX, like LY.50 for example).

Aren't there some links missing?

Regards
I don't know if I missed it in the first place, but Muḩāfaz̧at al Uqşur exists (7603259) in the DB, next to Luxor (7288519).

So one of them should be removed...

I saw this dataset, which isn't free : http://www.post.ch/post-startseite/post-geschaeftskunden/post-direct-marketing/post-direct-marketing-national/post-direct-marketing-adressen/post-direct-marketing-geopost/post-direct-marketing-geopost-zipcodes-geo.htm

But the one you found (cadastre.ch) seems excellent! The french version insists on the free use of the data (red font in the source):

Le jeu de données peut être utilisé sans aucune restriction. En cas d'utilisation commerciale, nous exigeons une indication de source «Mensuration Officielle Suisse / swisstopo».

It should be sufficient to add a line in the data sources page on geonames (I guess)

I made a quick search about the postal codes database. The one distributed by the swiss post office isn't free and has some restrictive licence. I couldn't find anything else with a sufficient level of details.

Have you been luckier than me?

Hello,

All adm1 divisions are present and correct for Jordan. However, numerous places have a wrong hierarchy, which seems to be the one in place before 1996.

1996-01-01: Ajlun and Jarash provinces split from Irbid, Aqaba split from Ma`an, Madaba split from Amman. A strip of land in the northeastern part of Amman was transferred to Zarqa. (Source: Statoid)

Indeed, most places in Madaba still appear under Amman, and even if you create a point in the Madaba area, it will automatically be attributed to the Amman division. (Same for the other "new" divisions").

I'm just reporting this, since I have no idea of how to deal with this problem...

Thanks Marc!

It would be a useful addition!
Hello,

numerous towns/villages in Switzerland are flagged as adm3 (communes) only. The associated PPL don't exist in the database. Ex: Carrouge.

In general, when looking at the swiss map, there are more administrative divisions than populated places, which is quite weird...

Hello,

Kaohsiung, an adm1 for Taiwan, is indicated as adm2 by the hierarchy webservice (ok on www):

Hello,

a new administrative system has been put in place in Libya: there are now 22 shabiyats instead of the former 25 baladiyats displayed on geonames.

You will find every change needed, along with new FIPS codes in the nga update1 (http://earth-info.nga.mil/gns/html/UPDATE1.pdf)

Hello,

I've got a problem with the hierarchy webservice on Phnom Penh (PPLC, Id=1821306)

The ws indicates Phnom Penh directly under Cambodia, instead of Krŏng Phnum Pénh, as shown on geonames.org

http://ws.geonames.org/hierarchy?geonameId=1821306

Hello,

Serbia and Montenegro still appears in the list of countries on Geonames. However, it split in 2006. Serbia on one hand and Montenegro on the other hand are "independant political entities".
So I think "Serbia and Montenegro" shoud disappear...

Hello,

Communes are now flagged as adm1 divisions in Geonames.
However, there is a level above, which is missing: districts.
Would it be possible to add it?
