If pilots are supposed to base their decision whether to fly or not on the service, then I would look for a more uptodate service. The GeoNames weather service is meant to give an information about the weather at a given point, but not to decide whether it is safe to fly or not.

It does not make much sense for us to speed up the processing on our side as the weather data in the feeds we read has an average age of ca 2h. Reading it more often will not make this age disappear. The weather stations don't report continuously, they report periodically which leads to a certain age of the last report.

You are not doing anything wrong.

For the findNearestAddress it is not considered an exception to not find an address. I would even estimate that it is normal for this service to not find an address, the US is not so densely populated that each coordinate is close to an address.

GeoNames is reading and processing the weather data once per hour.

If I were you then I would enter the url with the parameters in your browser to see what it returns. If you think records are missing then it most likely means that 'maxRows' is not high enough.

It it difficult to help you without knowing which service you are speaking of and which parameters you are using.
In order to debug it I would look at the call to the web service and see what the web service returns.

Nobody has touched these records recently and I cannot imagine that the service sometimes does not find them. Maybe you have been searching with a place name and not only the postal code and there are some possible spelling differences.
Next time you cannot find a postal code can you post the exact link that does not return it so that we can debug it.

Two of them 69001 Lyon and 97421 LA RIVIERE have been missing and have been added. I don't understand why you don't find the other codes. They are available in the database.
How exactly are you searching that you cannot find them?

There was a problem with the authorization of this service. It has been fixed.

The French Overseas departments and territories have their own ISO country code. The service did not return them for the country code 'FR'. We have now changed this and the service returns the DOM postal codes for the local country code and the country code 'FR'.

I don't understand the problem with the other locations.

How exactly are you searching that you cannot find these records?

The 'features' are manually entered in wikipedia and are very chaotic. We therefore don't plan to provide any webservice for them.
On the list are only the 'features' with 10 or more occurences there are thousands of features that occur only once, because of misspellers and other reasons.

Who is 'their' in your posting? If you don't want to or cannot post scripts or cannot improve the scripts provided by others why should anyone else? This is YOUR job. Don't expect others to do YOUR job.

The combination of cityname and admin region is not unique. You have to find another way to display it to your users. For instance you can reverse geocode the ambiguous citynames and add the nearest larger city to the name so that your users know which one is meant. This is also the way a human would disambiguate place names.
