I use nearbyplaces and yestredayevening and this evening I dont get an answer if I do reverse geocoding'. Normally it works well. Are there any known problems with performance and/or servers? Several pages of my site depend on the working of the reverse geocoding!
The free server are having performance problems right now. I see a lot of requests from yahoo pipes. I am trying to figure out whether I find a way to deal with it or whether I have to block yahoo pipes from accessing the rss-to-georss service.
As you know there is another server available for mission critical applications.
I'm looking for the algorithm to perform reverse geocoding. It is not possible for us to perform a web service. I've downloaded all of the US geonames, but have no clue where to go from here.
Check the documentation of your database system. Which algorithm you want to use depends on what you want to achieve and which database system you are using. There are some threads about implementing it in this forum and in the mailing list. Here one with MS SQL Server 2005: http://groups.google.com/group/geonames/browse_thread/thread/66c8368f2f72b5c2
