US Zipcode missing but not  XML

When I do a postalCodeLookupJSON query for ZIPCODE=20001, I don't get any hits for countryCode=US.

If I do a postalcode-search.html query for ZIPCODE=20001, I do get a hit for countryCode=US.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or is this just a minor inconsistency?

Probably something wrong with the way you build your query.

Here it returns a hit :
http://api.geonames.org/postalCodeLookupJSON?postalcode=20001&country=us&username=demo

Is there such a script as to get a user to input their US postal code and the script can tell what city they are in?

The postalCodeSearch service accepts a postalcode and returns information for it:
http://www.geonames.org/export/web-services.html#postalCodeSearch
