Is it possible to obtain the "geonameId" of the nearest weather station to given coordinates?? (Like that found on FindNearby?)
Thanks!
Nick

the findNearby accepts the parameter featureCode. Setting this to STNM you will get the weaterstations. Beware airports also include weather stations. If you also want those you will have add all featureCodes you are interested int.
Best Regards
Marc

Is there anyway to ensure it won't throw up a blank....i.e. ask that it searches for the nearest weather station (even if very far away), as opposed to a station nearby (and give the lank if there isn't one within it's defined search radius? I assume.)

Hi MArc,
Thought I'd update you on developments....what I've been trying to do is get a weather widget to update automatically according to ones position on earth, using google latitude.
It's working with the help of geonames.org, so thanks very much for your help and database!
Try it out....
Go to the Google LAtitude site, https://www.google.com/latitude/b/0
log into as user "yowindow", with password "yowindow"
Also open a tab or window with http://talesfromthesaddle.com/yowindow/yowindow.shtml, note the map and weather widgets.
Move the marker on google latitude to any location you like, refresh the talesfromthesadle window and see the location and weather update.
