Hi,

Apologies if this has already been answered elsewhere.

I've been using the free SRTM altitude service, limited to 2000 requests per hour and 30000 per day.

Using the maximum available will be putting a load on your server, and it would anyway be useful for me to be able to make a lot more requests, so I'm considering downloading the SRTM data and querying it locally.

The SRTM data is freely available, and the data specification is on NASA's website, so I could write some code to extract points. However, it makes sense to not try to reinvent the wheel - and so I was wondering whether the code that you use on this website for looking up altitudes from a given lat/long was available anywhere, or whether you could recommend any libraries for extracting SRTM data?

Many thanks
