bad sub-locations  XML

I am using GeoSetter to tag pictures within La Alhambra, Granada, Spain. GeoSetter uses the geonames web service.

For some reason the geoname service is giving really bad sub-locations. The east wall of the Alcazaba (37.17701563,-3.59132767) it places in Sacromonte which is actually across the river and is the eastern part of the Albaicin. The Wine Gate (37.17701563,-3.59132767) it puts in Realejo-San Matias, which again is not inside La Alhambra, but to the southeast.

Most of the locations in the eastern part of La Alhambra it places in Alcaicería de Granada. Wrong.

The most appropriate sub-location would just be La Alhambra.

Why is this so bad? Why are the sub-locations not only wrong, but so varied within a small area? What's the point of a geoname service where the data is apparently guessed at?

thanks, bws

The service is based on centroid point coordinates as we don't have boundary data for neighbourhoods (at least not for Spain).

Best
