I found the above while trying to figure out why timezone shapefiles were telling me that the timezone for these places is America/Moncton, a Canadian timezone.

I was doubting the shapefiles, but now I can see it's the place data that doesn't make sense. I looked up the lat/long coordinates in Google maps, and not only are the coordinates in Canada, the places names are there too. This isn't just a matter of bad coordinates for actual US places names.

This makes me wonder just how much unreliable data is in allCountries.zip, since I'm currently only sampling a small portion of the data, and not all errors are going to stand out as much as these.

Never mind... I just went ahead and created a matching account with the same name I'm using here in the forums.
