Hi,

So this morning I created a large number of geonames and mistakenly listed them as "populated localities" when in reality they were just neighborhoods of a city. Afterwards, I noticed that most of the stuff I'd entered was actually already present in the database, listed as "area" features instead of "populated locality".

Upon learning this, I decided the correct course of action was to delete all my erroneous geonames. I did so, and they disappeared from the website, but they still appear in the webservices API. Eg, this here:

view-source:http://ws.geonames.org/findNearbyPlaceNameJSON?formatted=true&lat=53.5&lng=-113.5&style=full

Should return the "name" as "Edmonton" but instead returns "Allendale", which is a neighborhood represented by this feature:

http://www.geonames.org/maps/bkm12955

This link shows the correct Allendale geoname listed as an "area", and doesn't show the one I created and then deleted as a "populated locality", which is what is appearing in the above call to JSON.

I apologize for being new here. Is there a wait period on deletes? Do deletions need to be approved? If so, please delete my mistakes, I promise I won't make any more now that I'm more familiar with the categorization system

Thanks.

The real time update of the servers powering the web services as interrupted due to a misconfiguration after a server move. It will need a full database export/import on all servers to fix this. It will take some more days.

And yes, I have seen your delete comment.

Best
