Hello,
I'm a newbie and I'm trying to import all geonames data for several months, but I'have some problems.
I tried to import data with the "import.sql" and was created the database structure.
I read the how-to (http://forum.geonames.org/gforum/posts/list/732.page) but I don't understand how to import all datas. I utilise windows and I think that the commands presents in the how-ti are for linux. It's correct?
I wish to realise a structure DB of this type:
Continent --> Nation --> Region/District --> Province --> City
So, I do not need for timezone, population, elevation, etc.
Please, can you help me?
thank you in advance.

Hi
if you have some trouble maybe you will get success with gisgraphy. it include an importer that download and import the data via an IHM. Note that the structure is different than the one you will get with the sql file. It is able to do the same thing with openstreetmap but you can disable it if you are not interested.

Hello,
thank you for your answer.
So, I visited the link http://download.gisgraphy.com/dump/ and I seen it's only for postgre sql.
I don't find the the importer download you mentioned in your post.
Please, can you explain me how to find it?
Will I get a structure of type Continent --> Nation --> Region/District --> Province --> City with gisgraphy?
Thankyou.

Hi
the importer is accessible in the admin interface (please consult the documentation)
you 'll get the structure without continent.

Hello,
I read the gisgraphy documentation (http://www.gisgraphy.com/documentation/index.htm#admininterface for admin interface) but I find an how-to about datas import through postgreSQL 8 + PostGIS here: http://www.gisgraphy.com/documentation/installation/setupwindows.htm
but I cannot create the "gisgraphy" database and I only have 2 database: "postgres" and "template_postgis"

Hi
please do not spam the forum, Gisgraphy installation has nothing to see with Geonames so does postgres.
