i am trying to produce from a mysql db to extract the very same information
http://ws.geonames.org/hierarchy?geonameId=<ID>
returns.
due to the somewhat inconsistent/confusing data, i have a rather hard time trying to figure out a query doing that.

otoh, the webservice should execute exactly the query i am looking for -- so, is it possible to get that query somewhere (mysql preferably, but any sql will do)?

i searched but no relevant answers turned up, though i am sure, the question has been asked before ...

it is a combination of query and cache. Posting a query would not help you at all.
