Hello, firstly, fantastic site!

So could someone please help me. I was going to use google maps api to convert a place name to a lat and long co-ordinate but they only let you do around 3000 a day. I then thought of using yahoo maps api which let you do 50000 but their documentation is rusbish and i cant find anyone who could help me.

So i am now trying to use this. I have downloaded the English database full dump.

What i need is to enter say, devon or stonehenge or luton airport and get a lat and lon result. I could do the code but is this the right way to do it? Is this a bad way? Does the thing i have downloaded have the right infomation?

Many Thanks
Chris

Ok, i just looked at the home page and tested your search feature.
What i need is a file that contains all of the populated places in Great Britain, all of the lakes, forests, castles landmarks etc, is there a way to get this?

Many Thanks

Right, I'm quite confused now, the first thing that i downloaded was called, GB_full.csv this file practically crashes anything that tries to open it but when i do get it open it seems to list every postcode in the uk, is that right? Whereas the file i have downloaded a minute ago is called GB.txt which seems to list other things which i think is what i need.
Could someone please explain the difference between the two files.

Also, that GB.txt file for some reason on the first 100 or so items has Asia/Nicosia instead of Europe/London like the rest, not sure if its a bug or not.
Think this line migh be a bug to,

Hi CBull

Your screenshot shows one of the two "Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia"

Cyprus may see this as a historical "bug"... but until now they are really a GB-Territory, not a colony or so...
