As Google Earth doesn't save elevation data, I want to use geonames.org data for this. However, I came across three types of elevation (with different results for the same point), namely SRTM3, Aster Global Digital Elevation Model and GTOPT 30.

Can someone explain to me what make these datasets different? I'm mainly creating cyclingroutes (via waypoints) and want to create a profile of the height of the trip.

Sincerely
marc

I did. And I have a view.

However, I want a second extended opinion from an open-minded expert. From someone who is eager to explain (a by-product of the drive for knowledge)!
