GeoNames Forum

I’m new to working with web services and mapping and I feel a little lost. Until now I’ve been strictly php and mysql guy and I’m trying to grow. Does anyone know of any great examples regarding how to make a json call to Geonames based on a map click on an Openlayers map and return that information to a form? The examples on Geonames are excellent but I’m trying to keep my distance from goggles control. I’ve seen examples that resemble what I’m trying to accomplish scattered across the net but I cannot get anything functional. An example returning something as simple as altitude would make my weekend. Any help would be appreciated because this is driving me over the edge and apparently it’s a short drive. Thanks everyone!
