Hi Marc,
Do you think you could add to the French data set a macro composed of Haute-Normandie and Basse-Normandie called Normandie? This is very commonly used by French users.
Thanks,
Chloé

What exactly do you mean with 'macro'?

Hi Marc,
It's a term we use to designate a location that is not an administrative hierarchical entity, but that is commonly used by the population. So for example, in France we have the two regions of Haute-Normandie and Basse-Normandie, but people rarely refer to them seperately; they just refer to both together as Normandie. Users often search for 'Normandie' rather than haute-normandie for example and in Geonames the existing Normandie are cities in:
-NJ, USA
-Canada
So as a result we're not identifying their search terms as that area in France.
I was wondering if we could add it also as an area in France, like a super region?

The geonames search displays cities from both regions when searching with the term 'Normandie':

I don't know how your systems work. We could certainly add a region called 'Normandie' but we would not be able to include it in the existing hierarchy and I have doubts that your system would be able to do any thing meaningful with it.

Best

Marc
