Hello,
Would it be possible to include the ocean geoname id along with the name? I think it would be more convinient than having just the name.
Thank you for your answer

I would be glad to help.
I started looking for the missing geonameid's and I noticed that often more than one features exist for the same ocean name. For example, there are two features for the Gulf Of Panama, both with the same feature code and at the same latitude/longitude only one has the name "Gulf of Panama" and the other "Golfo de Panamá". I suppose the dublicate entry should not be there?
I'll post a list with the missing id's as soon as possible.
Regards

I'm not entirely sure what the Canarias Sea is supposed to be, but it probably shouldn't be the result of this query:
http://ws.geonames.org/extendedFindNearby?lat=25.5565710943&lng=-32.9850060664
That's pretty far away from the Canary Islands, which is really the only possible association.

"Canarias Sea" is the sea off the Canary Islands.

Hi --
I have been using the Ocean service and have come across a number of (what appear to be) typos in the results, and in the list above. As far as I can determine...
"Strait Of Gilbraltar" should be Gibraltar
"Gulf Of Bone" should be Boni
"Jawa Sea" should be Java
"Coastal Waters Of Great Barrier Reefs" should be Reef (not Reefs)
"Makasar Strait" should be Makassar
"Japan Sea" should (IMO) be "Sea of Japan"
"Bo Sea" should be "Bohai Sea"

Just wondering if there is an update on this? Are you still missing some of the ids? It would be *really* helpful to have the geoname id along with the ocean/sea name.
If you've got the IDs I guess it could even return the same data that a geoname does (fcodes, alternative names etc).
Thanks
