For example:

http://ws.geonames.org/findNearbyWikipedia?lat=60.170833&lng=24.9375&maxRows=10

These look sorted by distance, but I'm not exactly sure.

I tried searching to forums, but couldn't find anything. My apologies if this question has been posted a billion times before.

yes, they are sorted by distance.
