Any chance of supporting rsync for downloading the database? I need to do queries while offline. The webservice is of no use in this scenario. Downloading the entire database over every day or every week to update my local database is obviously unnecessary load on the geonames server.

no, as I don't see any benefits. Only more maintenance and support as hardly anybody would be using it.
