Hi there is any plan to add an API to submit new place and modification to geonames? i'm building a website that i hope get many new place, and i'm happy if i can contribuite to extending geonames, but using the wiki interface for any point is a pain.. so why don't provide an API for this?

The API exists, but it is not advertised because we want to know who is using it. If you are trustworthy I can send you the link in a pm

i'm going to provide also a wiky style interface for adding place's but in a little different manner.

Some question: is the added places (or modified) directly searchable or we have to wait the index rebuilding?

Updates through the wiki interface or the api trigger an immediate index update and are propagated to all servers. The propagation to the servers sometimes gets out of sync and a complete copy of the search index and the database is required.
