Hello all,

I have a short question about the webpage and the query findNearby, which does not show the same result as found on the webpage. Here are two examples:

The mountain Vilan in Switzerland. The following link

http://www.geonames.org/maps/showOnMap?q=47.01257%2C9.60313

show the Vilan and other mountains around. The query

http://ws.geonames.org/findNearby?lat=47.01257&lng=9.60313&maxRows=10&radius=10

Does not show the mountains nearby. Even not with the &featureClass=T argument.

The mountain Falknis in Switzerland. The following link

http://www.geonames.org/maps/showOnMap?q=Falknis

shows to the correct mountain. The link with the coordinates

http://www.geonames.org/maps/showOnMap?q=47.05%2C9.56667

shows mountain around but not the mountain in the center (Falknis). The query

http://ws.geonames.org/findNearby?lat=47.05&lng=9.56667&maxRows=10&radius=10

with the same coordinates and the same center shows as first output the mountain Falknis.

Are there different databases for the webpage and the query? Or has my query the wrong input arguments? How is it possible to show in the above examples the same result?

thanks for the help
marc

It is not the same server. Some mountains have been added recently to the database and the changes are not yet available on all servers.

Hello Marc,

thanks for the answer.

But can you tell me why this two links show different results? They point to the exact same mountain!

http://www.geonames.org/maps/showOnMap?q=Falknis

http://www.geonames.org/maps/showOnMap?q=47.05%2C9.56667

Is this not the same server?

All the best

It is the same server but the second query is directly from the database whereas the first is from a search index. I have updated all databases and synchonized all search indices. All you points should be corrected. Except for the one where more than 50 toponyms have been found and only the first 50 are displayed, in this case you have to zoom in to see the peak you are looking for.

Best
