As it seems in the following post InnoDB has become a lot faster then MyISAM in the recent years (it used to be slower as it seems).

Does anyone have any experience with this? What database storage engine is the best choice for GeoNames data?

Also, it seems the GeoNames.org webservice uses PostgreSQL. However, isn't this much slower then MySQL?

Ofcourse FULLTEXT search is missing in InnoDB, however, SphinxSearch may offer an alternative FULLTEXT search for InnoDB and FULLTEXT search may also be added by default in future MySQL versions.
