Why is it that the "United Arab Emirates" country found here: http://ws.geonames.org/search?q=Dubayy&maxRows=1&style=FULL does not show up in your country info web service (http://ws.geonames.org/countryInfo?)?
The following countries are also missing from the countryInfo webservice:
1) Code: TL -- Name: East Timor
2) Code: CS -- Name: Serbia And Montenegro
Please let me know if this is a bug, or if there is something that I over-looked and should know about how I am using your web services. kavih7@yahoo.com
THANK YOU!!

Sorry Forum Admins,
I should have created a forum account before I posted the above message. Anyways, you can reply to me on this post if you would rather use this system of reply than emailing me directly.
THANKS!

Hi Kavih
This is true, some countries are missing from the xml web service. The CVS webservice, however, returns all countries :
http://ws.geonames.org/countryInfoCSV?
Reason is the XML service includes the bounding box and for some counties we don't yet have this information in our database. The bounding box is based on country border information : http://www.geonames.org/country-borders.html
Missing are : AE,CS,UM,VA, TL and the new ones JE,GG,IM.
If anybody knows where to get the country borders of AE,CS,UM,VA, TL, please let us know.

edit 23/07/2006 08:11 :
I just see the new ones (JE,GG,IM) are already added.

As an approximation you could use Flickr reverse geocoding: http://code.flickr.com/blog/tag/geo/
It's not the official border but it's better than nothing...

This is a pretty old thread. The missing countries have been added to the service a long time ago.
Best
