http://www.geonames.org/3373397/la-gabriela.html shows La Gabriela, CUBA closer to Africa than Cuba: N 23°04′00″ / W 31°40′00″
http://geonames.nga.mil/namesgaz/ has: 23° 04' 29" N / 081° 40' 06" W, so I suspect that the main problem is a typo in the longitude.

Similarly, http://www.geonames.org/3373400/eliseo.html shows Eliseo, CUBA closer to Africa than Cuba : N 20°06′00″ / W 25°53′00″
http://geonames.nga.mil/namesgaz/ has: 20° 06' 18" N / 075° 53' 36" W, so I suspect that the main problem is a typo in the longitude.

Hi all,

I noticed GeoNames doesn't have an entry for India's National Capital Region, an officially defined region that includes the National Capital Territory (which is in the database) and a few surrounding districts in other states. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Capital_Region_(India)

I just added it: http://www.geonames.org/9972750/national-capital-region.html

However, I've ended up tagging it as P/PPLS instead of the more appropriate A/ADM1 and can't edit as I'm a new user at userlevel1. Can someone help?

FWIW, there's already the NCT with A/ADM1. NCR is a super-set of NCT+neighbouring districts, but is not an official state.

I also don't see a way to contribute a map outline to mark its boundaries. Is that an advanced user feature?

Mark, and me please. I have a superuser level 2 in Foursquare and i want to help Geonames more.

I'd like to add a missing place.

It's under http://www.geonames.org/4087481/saint-clair-county.html and called Millstadt (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millstadt,_Illinois).

Not sure how I can add this. I tried to add it in the children view of the county but the only available field is a geoname_id.

Sorry if this has been asked before or this isn't the right thread to post.

BTW, upon going through the downloaded data (allCountries.txt) I find a lot of wrong information. Eg. a lot of towns that are marked as ADM2 but aren't ADM2 level (that is in Cologne, Germany).

I've fixed them in our DB, but if it is possible I'd prefer to fix them in global geoname DB. I'm not allowed to fix it in http://www.geonames.org/maps/google_58.01_56.25.html. What can I do.

When I perform a hierarchy query (with hierarchy=tourism parameter) for a location in the Canary Islands, I get the following hierarchy (excerpt):

... > ADM1 > ISL > ADM3 > ...

It is ignoring ADM2, which is great, because it returns the island (ISL).

See http://api.geonames.org/hierarchy?geonameId=2519217&username=demo&hierarchy=tourism

But when I perform a similiar query for a location in El Hierro island (also in the Canary Islands), it is also returning ADM2, which is redundant (with hierarchy=tourism parameter) because it is also returning the island (ISL):

... > ADM1 > ADM2 > ISL > ADM3 > ...

Would it be possible for location hierarchy queries (with hierarchy=tourism parameter) in El Hierro island to ignore ADM2, as it rightly currently does for location queries in locations in the rest of the Canary Islands?

I registered in order to be able to update some military installation names but it says I need user level 2 to do that. Langley Air Force Base and Fort Eustis merged into Joint Base Langley - Eustis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_Base_Langley%E2%80%93Eustis). The location should stay the same as the existing Langley Air Force Base.

Also Fort Eustis is listed as a populated place (PPL) but it should be changed to military installation.

There were several other military installation name changes this year that will require name changes as well.

I think Fort Eustis just stays the same name but is changed to S/INSM. Then Langley's name changes to Joint Base Langley - Eustis and everything else about it stays the same.

there is a settlement in Hungary (Szentendre-3044681) which has a duplicated version (Szentendre-3046945). I don't have a permission to delete it, can you help me with this? (giving permission, or deleting the Szentendre-3046945 settlement).
