Thanks for your contributions.

Hi. Trying to edit alternative names for St. Catharines Ontario and get "Authorization Error, please login"

I was able to successfully edit Saint John NB but not St. Catharines. Sometimes I get booted to account "anonymous"

I'm having the same problem. I can't delete this https://www.geonames.org/10872330/ujre.html. With the proper name and info already exists. This is duplicate and also wrong name.

Hi, I'm trying to update a number of erroneous mountain locations and for some I'm getting the same "authorization error, please login".

E.g. for Nevado Salcantay in the Peruvian Andes there are 2 entries. The first is mostly correct but the location pin is slightly off. The 2nd "Nevado Salcantay" is redundant as well as wrong - its location pin is 162 km ESE of the actual Salcantay. So, I was trying move the former to give the summit a more accurate location and I was trying to delete the latter.

Please advise how I can proceed.

On another note, I'm finding the "move" function to update map locations (for mountains I'm updating to contribute to the PeakJut project) prone to bizarre behaviour. E.g. sometimes the dialogue box, which is visually large, covers up the actual summit location I'm trying to move the peak label to, so instead I have to use the true summit location's coordinates from Google Earth and convert them into pure decimals and type them into the "move" coordinate box. After I hit save/confirm, sometimes the coordinates are auto-changed to something slightly different and the location pin does not move exactly to where it should based on the actual coordinates I carefully entered. So I've had to fiddle around and move a couple peak locations around multiple times until through a combination of luck and precision the location pin finally winds up in the exact right spot.

Anyone else noticed this odd behaviour?

Hi,

I'm trying to fix various mountain summit data:

1 "Huascarán" in the Peruvian Andes: https://www.geonames.org/search.html?q=huascaran&country. Here it appears there are some wrong/redundant entries (#5?). ChatGPT confirmed that there is another mountain (additional to the famous 6768 m volcano, Nevado Huascarán) in Peru also named "Huascarán": 3826 m Cerro Huascarán (entry #4 in the "Huascarán" list linked above). It appears that entry #5, also named "Cerro Huascarán", but given a different elevation (3264 m) and location than the confirmed 3826 m Cerro Huascarán, may be in error. Can it be deleted?

2. Nevado Salcantay in the Peruvian Andes: https://www.geonames.org/search.html?q=salcantay&country=. It has 2 entries for the same peak; #1 is generally correct, although I'd like to tag its summit location more accurately, while #2 is definitely wrong and should be deleted (it's in the totally wrong mountain range). How can this be done? I'm getting the "authorization error, please log in".

Can you please increase my level / upgrade my editing permissions? Thanks.

Hi mainemce

Thanks a lot for your contributions. I have increased your user level.

Don't know about the auto complete issue, maybe your browser does something?

Best Regards

Hi there

Recently discovered GeoNames and it's awesome!

I'm trying to correct the positioning of the summit of Whernside in the UK, but seeing this same authorization issue.

Please could you tweak my level?

Thanks!

Hi!

I've been receiving similar errors when updating several places in British Columbia, Canada:

1. Clearbrook, Abbotsford

> https://www.abbotsford.ca/sites/default/files/2024-11/Clearbrook.pdf

2. Rayleigh, Kamloops

3. Nanaimo
> city, population 99,863 (2021)
> https://www12.statcan.gc.ca/census-recensement/2021/dp-pd/prof/details/page.cfm?Lang=E&SearchText=Nanaimo&DGUIDlist=2021A00055921007&GENDERlist=1,2,3&STATISTIClist=1&HEADERlist=0

If these could be fixed, that would be great!
Also, if my user level could be increased, I would really appreciate that too. Thanks!
