feature suggestion: cityname for hierarchy webservice

Hi Marc,

It would be nice to have the cityname in hierarchy queries, not just ADM1, ADM2 and nearby placename.

Also tried adding this feature code to hierarchy but no luck
&featureClass=P&featureCode=PPLA&featureCode=PPL&featureCode=PPLC

You are absolutely right, for a lot of feature codes like neighbourhoods or points of interests it would be nice to return the city as well. At the moment we are lacking the data to provide this kind of service.

Cheers

Re:feature suggestion: cityname for hierarchy webservice

Marc, I find there is plenty of city data. I am using the hierarchy query to get the full hierarchy, and then I run a findnearby with featureclass for cities, and it works fine.

Also, I just found out about extendedfindnearby :)

It seems similar to a hierarchy query for the city.

Wonder if extendedfindnearby and hierarchy could be combined so it returns a hierarchy of
globe : continent : country : ADM1 : ADM2 : ADM3 : city : nearby_location

If one of the levels is missing, it could simply not return that level.

This would give a hierarchy as complete as possible and it could combine the hierarchy + findnearby + extendedfindnearby queries :)

Giorgio,

In fact the extendedFindNearby service already is a combination of several services, among them the findNearby and the hierarchy service. For PPLX the corresponding city has now been included in the hierarchy service.

Best
