Poland admin1

Hi, I am working with localities in Poland and I noticed that a lot of them are unlinked with any Admin1 area. I started to try to fix them manually, but I see that these cities seems to have an Admin1 set up but is not the right one, or probably this Admin1 is removed from the database... I noticed also that Admin1 area are duplicated, so I don't know which I have to set up for the cities. Is there any automatic way to fix these localities, or I have to continue to fix them manually? Hi Jacopo We could boundary vector information and do the update automatically. Unfortunately I don't know of a source for good boundary polyons for Polish administrative divisions. Do you know a source? I have fixed the duplicate ADM1 entries. This should be ok now. Marc

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately there are no coordinates in the files (or at least I don't see them). I don't speak Polish. Is there some geo-data set available on this site: http://www.gugik.gov.pl/ ? For the beginning the centroid lat/lng for the admin divisions would be fine, even better polygon information with the boundaries of the admin division. Marc

I haven't found any data ready for download on their site :< Their project http://geoportal.gov.pl/ has online map with place search http://maps.geoportal.gov.pl/webclient/default.aspx?activeTab=1 Their child division http://www.codgik.gov.pl/ maintains official database of geographic names in Poland, but I've found there online form only to place order for purchase of datasets/administrative divisions boundary maps. http://www.stat.gov.pl/bdr_n/app/dane_cechter.wymiary - online form to get detail data for divisions, but no data to downlaoad except this previously mentioned xml files for divisions.

Thanks a lot I have inserted the adm2 and adm3. A lot of adm2 names in the file from Central Statistical Office of Poland start with something that looks like a lower case character. Is this normal in Polish that place names do not start with an upper case character or is it an error? "Powiaty" (second order division) all are in polish language in the form "Powiat " + adjective created from (usually) the town/settlement beeing the seat of this level authorities), for instance "Powiat szczeciński", "Powiat kłodzki" etc. It seems geoportal.gov.pl stores this adjective only in their database (and serves it this way in GML too). When "Wojewodztwo" or "Powiat" from the name in these database is not added, they leave remaining adjective as lower case. Exception for above rule are towns with powiat's rights, but they are not powiat themselves. All such town-equal-to-powiat are stored in "Powiaty" database/GML in noun form starting with upper case. Sometimes do exist powiat-s with names as adjectives from these town names, but they are occupying country _outside_ these towns only and do not iclude town itself (but to confuse things they usually have authority seat in this town or share some of offices with the town). If official form with field "POWIAT" is filled, the word powiat is usuallly omitted, when it is not understable from the context that 'powiat' is meant, the word "Powiat" is added at the beginning and the full form "Powiat szczeciński", "Powiat kłodzki" etc. is used.

I support this idea, as this will be compatible with voivodeships, where word 'Voivodeship' is appended to 1st order division names, which are adjectives too. Now, when I move place in Poland, if 1st order division is corrrect, 2nd and 3rd order divisions are appended. But when 1st order division is wrong, nothing of the sort happens, only after I manullay change 1st order division. It should move to correct 1st order division automatically too, at least when seconds are present. All places for Poland with seconds can be converted to 2nd and 3rd order divisions automatically, too, I think.
