Hi @all, i haven´t found any postal codes in the database dump. Is that correct. I would like to have them e.g. for Germany. Is there any possibility to get them?

Hi We have separated the postal codes from the geographical names as for many names (mountains, lakes, etc) its impossible and it does not make sense to use a postal code. It is easier for us and for our users to separate general names from postal code names. Postal codes are therefore in a separate dump file, which is currently not available for general download as we don't want to feed search engine spammers. (The ones creating thousand of pages with place names and having google ads as only content.) We believe for 'serious' applications the use of a webservice makes more sense. Drop an email to info@geonames.org if you need the postal code dump file. (And if you are not a spammer :wink: )

I recently downloaded the geonames database dump to use for checking the address of the properties in our data. Would it be possible to send me the postal codes dump of the european countries? Additionally I need to figure out the assignment of places to regions: like "Zell am See" (geonameid=2760634)is located in "Pinzgau" (geonameid=2768802), "Mitterpinzgau" (geonameid=2771403). Hi I am afraid the information if a place is part of a Valley (Pinzgau) is not yet included in the geonames database. We only have information about administrative subdivisions. Let us know if you know where to get this information as public domain data. Marc

I fear there are some licence problems with the redistribution of the Mexican Postal codes. The postal codes for Mexico are from the "Servicio Postal Mexicano" (sepomex) and they write : no estando permitida su comercialización, total o parcial, ni su distribución a terceros bajo ningún concepto.

Hello Geonames staff, let me give you a short interview of myself. I am a software developer working at the ADempiere project, which is currently the worlds largest open source ERP/CRM/SCM system. My current contribution is some functionality to lookup a location name by entering the postal code for a Business Partners address. Since we can't require all users to have a internet connection during working with ADempiere we decided against a realtime webservice lookup, even if it's the cleaner way doing it. Rather we let the user download the database dumps of the countries he's interested in, let him doing the import using my additional functionality i develop for ADempiere and that's it. But now we ran into serious trouble as we have recognized that the postal code itself is not part of the database dumps you provide for download. Now my question: Would you be so kind to send us the postal code only database dump for all countries which are available? We weould be very thankful if you could do so and would like to mention Geonames in our feature list as well as the changelogs. Hi Mark, Thank you for the link. But one thing puzzles me, admin1_code in geonames are differents from admin1_code from postal codes ones. I searched in the forum clue but I didn't find anything. Can you enligthen me please ? Edit : Ok, I read more carefuly the doc and I found that postal code has admin1 ISO 3166-2 codes and geonames fips codes. Is that right ? I hope to expand it to include most European and later Asian countries, but for now I just need postal codes and lat/lon for Germany, Netherlands, and Belgium. I've tried merging the downloadable geonames db for AU with the postcodes provided by Australia Post but my VLOOKUP skills only go so far and obviously all the placenames don't match. Not for spamming, because I know how much it sucks - I just received 70+ "Return to sender" emails yesterday from some script kiddie masquerading as me (the punk using my email when talking to the smtp server).
