Postal code data dump for India?

I noticed that you can search by postal code in India on the geonames website, but India is not available in the postal code data dump. Is there any way we could download postal code data for India (even if the data is incomplete or inaccurate)? Will a postal code dump for India ever be available? This is a wonderful data source! Thanks.

Postal codes for India have been removed from the dump since the lat/lng are not accurate enough. We can : 1. remove it altogether and forget about it 2. include it in the dump without lat/lng 3. include it in the dump with inaccurate lat/lng and a warning What do you prefer ? Marc

Hi Marc, I'd love to get a postal code data dump for India (and Brazil for that matter) even if the lat/long data isn't very accurate. So I guess that's option #3 (Include it in the dump with inaccurate lat/lng and a warning.) Certainly better than nothing! Thanks so much. --Maisy

Hi Maisy I have included the Indian Postal Index Number (PIN) in the dump with a warning. We don't have data for Brazil yet. I think there is a commercial dataset available from the Brazilian postal office here : http://www.correios.com.br/servicos/precos_tarifas/nacionais/dne/tratamento_enderecos.cfm There are over 600000 postal codes in Brazil, according to this page : http://www.correios.com.br/servicos/precos_tarifas/nacionais/pdf/DNE_CEPs_Localidade_UF_dez_03.pdf I don't think we would need the full postal codes, the first 5 digits should be sufficient for our needs. First let me say what a great resource this is overall. As you know India is not accurate 100%, the postcode of the office where I am working for the next few weeks is out by about 0.1 of a degree and is therefore 10km adrift. We might be able to help with making Delhi more accurate, what format works for you?
