Homologous POIs

Hi,

I've a question.
GeoNames uses multi-sources to build a unified POIs database. Also users can contribute to add/edit POIs.
So I want to know what if GeoNames receive many POIs from different sources that refer to the same real-word object with similar locations and place name but not 100% exact. How GeoNames avoids duplicated POIs? and which POI it chooses between different similar possibilities?
