Incorrect Name on feature

What is the correct way of making the change? Just do the edit? That what I did but now I think that may have been incorrect.

And as I think about it, over time name of features names do change. For example in Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA, the name for First Landing State Park was once called Seashore State Park.

So the name shown could be the result of a name change. However, the city still has it on their GIS as the name that was given to it on the recorded plat that created it.

I feel that all places should have a source tag to designate where and when the information providing that name came from.
