Changes to GeoNames Not Shown in API Calls

I'm not sure I read correctly in this forum, but I found somewhere that the GeoNames database is updated every 20 minutes. However, I made several additions to the GeoNames database using the map provided after a search on the homepage (clarifying to make sure this is in fact the way to add to the api results as well). However, I have been unable to obtain these results using the GeoNames full-text search, and have tried all possible combinations of specific parameters without finding them.

Assistance/Clarification would be greatly appreciated :?

The database for the api servers is currently updated about once or twice per month. There is a synchronization mechansim for immediate updates. Unfortunaltely it is broken and I haven't found the time yet to fix it.
