osm

how is geonames related to OSM? We use OSM for maps and want to start using geonames for nearby poi search and nearby city search... we were wondering if we will run into many inconsistencies between the two.

Any input is appreciated!

Thank y ou!

Re:osm

they are not related. GeoNames in fact is not even allowed to use osm data within their own database because osm is using a very restrictive license that does not allow geonames to use the data and integrate it into the gazetteer data.

The poi search is using entirely osm data, in contrast to the other services it is under a restrictive share-alike license.
