Does GeoNames have legal rights to use 3rd party data

Greetings...

I recently discovered GeoNames and it seems like an ideal solution for a feature I'm building. I've already implemented a proof of concept and it seems to be working quite well.

As part of my due diligence with any new software I've run it past our legal department. They would like for me to double check that GeoNames does indeed have legal rights to use the data returned from any of the API endpoints. I've searched through the sitemap and couldn't find any page which explicitly indicated usage rights, but I did find this forum post from user marc in 2010:
http://forum.geonames.org/gforum/posts/list/1712.page

It appears from Marc's footer that he is affiliated with GeoNames, but I'm not positive he's able to speak for them. The post discusses usage rights, but never clearly states whether GeoNames has legal rights to redistribute the data.

Could any GN employee/volunteer offer a link or statement clearing use of the data?

Cheers
