Getting the correct (or at least the best) result based from cityname

Hi!
Brand new to geonames and i really like it, thanks for your contribution! I was facing a problem: giving only the name of a city, say "Los Angeles", what's the best way of retrieving the correct one (Los Angeles, CA, USA) while looking for cities? How should i filter out my results with mysql? I've been tryin to restrict to feature codes starting with PP but some times i get bad performances (and still not 1 unique result)

Thanks for your help!
