newbie question ref Height data

Hi I was hoping to use geonames to get height data about WGS84 coords so for example I use the following
http://api.geonames.org/srtm3?lats=40.45614044&lngs=-6.06509996&username=demo

which returns the height fine, a couple of things I would like to know, do I actually need to reister for a username to use the service or can I just use demo as a username.

Also I notice I can also use http://ws.geonames.org/srtm3?lats=40.45614044&lngs=-6.06509996 however sometimes I get the message the servers ar overloaded?

Which one of the above 2 should I use?

Many Thanks

Yes, you should register. The demo account anyhow does often throw a 'credits exceeded' error because too many users are using it.

The api.geonames.org is the correct one, the other one is obsolete and no longer supported:

Best
