Please use the domain api.geonames.org, it is usually more recent than the old domain ws.geonames.org.

The real time syncronization between the servers is currently disabled, as there is something broken that consumes a lot of resources. We first have to identify the problem and fix it before it can be enabled again.

The data on the api.geonames.org server is frequently updated (every couple of days).

Best

Re:Newly added entries not showing up in webservice

hi

First I want to thank you for this wonderful service. It's really great!

I have the same problem concerning the one eskaytwo had. In order to update my database I wrote a script to handle deletes-<date>.txt and modifications-<date>.txt. Unfortunately in the modifications-<date>.txt (and also in the <country>.zip/<allCountries.zip>-file there are not all informations I need. For example, I really need the adminName3 (instead of the adminCode3), etc.

So I wanted to make a web-request (api.geonames.org/getJSON...) in order to get the newly added or modified data. Unfortunately all added items are not available. Can you please tell me, how frequent the api.geonames.org is updated in order to I am able to insert this data?

Thousand thanks,

The adminName3 can be derived from the adminCode3.
The data on the api server is updated regulary, every couple of days.

hi marc

Thanks for your fast response.

On August, 16. there was (for example) added a new object with the geonameId = 7932049. Is that right, that six days later it is not in the api server? - Because, when I make a sample web request (http://api.geonames.org/get?geonameId=7932049&username=<user>) - I get "this geonameid does not exist".
Or am I doing anything wrong?

Thank you!

hi marc

I have a second little question concerning the DB dump. I know how get the adminName1 (via admin1CodesASCII.txt) and the adminName2 (via admin2Codes.txt) from the dump. At the moment I am saving allCountries.zip, admin1CodesASCII.txt and admin2Codes.txt to the DB. That works perfectly.

From the Dump (allCountries.zip) I also get the adminCode3 which (unfortunately) I don't know how to resolve. Can you please help me?

Is that right, that no continent information is saved in the dump?

Thank you!

You get the adm3name with the featurecode ADM3 and the same admin codes.

The conintent code so far is per country in the countryInfo file.

the data on api.geonames.org has been updated today.

Best Regards

hi marc

thanks for your help. Everything worked fine.

I only have one additional question: How would you propose me to update the DB with the modifications-<date>.txt file because the newly added mountains are not updated every day?

Thank you.
