"search" webservice. strange behavior with maxRows

Hi Marc

When I call this query:

http://api.geonames.org/search?q=oberkirch&countryBias=ch&isNameRequired=true&type=xml&lang=de&maxRows=1&featureClass=P&style=full&username=demo

then I get Oberkirch in Germany as result. But when I change (to e.g. 2) or remove the "maxRows" parameter then Oberkirch in Switzerland is the first result.

Shouldn't Oberkirch, CH the result too when I set maxRows=1 ?

Regards,
Ingo

Hi Ingo

When exactly to you get the German result? The link you provided correctly returns the Swiss location at first position.

Uhh, I'm sorry. Wrong domain:

I happens on the paid webservice:

api.geonames.org and ws.geonames.org give different results, too.

Is there a new subdomain for the paid webserive?

Hmm, strange.

The premium domains do not change. They are anyhow hosted on other servers and they are a not affected by the load problems on the free servers.

Hi Ingo

The problem has disappeared with a new search index. We have not figured out what really caused the issue and have to monitor it. Let me know if you find other issues of the same type.

Best Regards

Hi Ingo

While implementing the unit tests for this issue I have discovered that there is still something wrong. It is reproducable with the tests and will be fixed asap.

Best

Marc

Edit: The error has been identified and a fix is deployed on the api.geonames.org server. It will be deployed on the other servers with the next release.
